W. David Stahlman University of Mary Washington
Dave is interested in the environmental contingencies that shape adaptive characteristics in organisms. Dave received his PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied associative learning in nonhuman animals under Aaron Blaisdell. He then received a faculty appointment at the University of Mary Washington, where he currently is an Associate Professor of Psychological Science and the director of the department’s animal behavior laboratory. He has performed behavioral research with a variety of models, including rats, pigeons, pill bugs, and hermit crabs. Dave’s primary research efforts include the examination of the control of behavioral variability and the selection of behavior by its consequences.
David Brodbeck Algoma University
Dave is interested in the evolution of spatial memory and cognition in general. He got his start as an undergrad in Nancy Innis’s lab at Western University in London, ON where he studied memory for food location in rats on an open field. Dave moved on to grad work at the University of Toronto where he studied memory differences between storing and non storing bird species in Sara Shettleworth’s lab. After a three year postdoc with Bill Roberst back at Western Dave worked for two years as an assistant professor at Algoma University in Sault Ste Marie, ON, Canada. Dave spent six years at Memorial University of Newfoundland before returning to Algoma where he is a professor of psychology. He is the host of “Spit and Twitches: The Animal Cognition Podcast”.
